Americans Love Aussie Football, Too!

Spring time comes along, and while other people are talking about the NBA finals, how the baseball season is getting underway, or about the NHL finals, there is one sport in my mind that trumps them all and that is Australian rules football. Anyone who hasn’t seen this sport is really missing out, as it is a very unique blend of rugby, soccer, and football – with a definite Aussie twist in how the sport is played. Want to push the goal post to allow a kick to go through?

It’s allowed. Ever see a fight break out, and one player scoops up the ball, runs all the way down the field and scores? Well I have, and those points counted. While it can take a little bit of time to figure out the basic rules, a couple of hours of watching with my friends gave us enough of a handle to really get most of what was going on, and enjoy the experience. Every spring, whether they’re actual live games or reruns, I don’t know, but it’s the only time I can sit back, slip through the channels from my satellite TV, and find a channel guide on directstartv.com, and find one of the most entertaining and impressive sports that I have ever watched in Aussie rules football.
